California Story 
This CD features 17 original songs by Patrick Michael Karnahan. The songs are about the
people, places and history of the Golden State. Each song reflects the diverse geographies
and personalities of the state. Different styles in the music structure make this album a
rare change from the modern world of music. In the true style of Folk Americana California
Story tell the story of interesting places and people that have shaped the history of
the state. When you listen to the stories it will take you away to another place and time
The Black Irish Band was fortunate enough to
have Mary Youngblood compose two songs for their album California Story
"Tears
for Keintepos" a song about Captain Jack, and "Lava Winds" - Inspired by
the wonderous lava beds of Northern California

- The town of Sonora,
California, was founded by miners from Sonora, Mexico, during the Gold Rush. They became
victims of the miner's tax, imposed by the Europeans and they left.
5. Mt. Shasta, From Afar -California's cascade mountain on a clear day can be seen
from 100 miles away.
6. Men of Iron-The building of the Central Pacific Railroad (1860's). Dedicated to
the memory of the thousands of Chinese American Laborers who built the railroad.
7. Sweet Thursday (The Harbinger Has Passed) - Dedicated to the memory of John
Steinbeck and Ed "Doc" Ricketts, who gave life to Monterey's Cannery Row.
8. Mendocino I Hear -Located off the Northern California coast. One of the most
beautiful places on earth, at least to the author.
9. The Wreck of The Brother Jonathan -In the summer of 1865, the side-wheel
steamship, Brother Jonathan left San Francisco bound for the Pacific Northwest. Off
Crescent City, the Brother was sent to her death by the reefs of Pt. St. George, carrying
190 souls to a watery grave.
10. The Ballad of John Muir - From the Banks of Scotland into the hearts of those
who still care about the wild places.
11. Above The Valley Floor - (The Yosemite Valley Waltz) Dedicated to the memory of
artist Stephen Lyman , who captured the beauty of Yosemite. His spirit will remain above
the Valley floor.
12. Black Mariah (Bodie Homecoming) - Bodie is located near the California-Nevada
border, once a hell-raising mining town, now a ghost of the past.
