Between the folks that came down in person (and some of our non-living guests) we had a sell-out crowd at Pipers Opera House in Virginia City! Pipers Opera House has hosted some of the Comstock history’s greatest names, to include Mark Twain, Maude Adams, Lilly Langtry, John Philip Sousa, Emma Nevada and Al Jolson. We shared the stage with their legacy and a FABULOUS audience!
Besides our gracious house hosts (Renee and Rhea) we were invited by the persistence of some of the Black Irish’s greatest fans, Joe and Rebecca. Working in cahoots with the VCTC (Virginia City Tourism Council) and the historic hall, we raised the roof with songs that would have been heard on that stage in the late 1800’s, such as Ol’Susanna, Buffalo Girls, and sea shanties such as “A Long Time Ago” and “Spanish Ladies”.
The Comstock Silver Lode was the foundation for the money that built San Francisco, so we would also like to give a shout-out to our “otherworldly” guests, the German Stage manager “Robreicht” and “The Lady in Blue” who make frequent appearances both in the hall and about the town. As one of America's MOST haunted towns, we came with respect, and gave them a show we’re sure they loved.
Mostly, we want to thank the wonderful folks of Virginia City, Carson City, Reno, Dayton, (and even as far as Winters, CA) for making the journey to this historic center of rail, mining, and trade. It’s the people who come to support this music that keep this steam train rolling along, and we promise not to disappoint!
We drove from San Diego JUST to see you all! Please send us news of future shows, we LOVE your music, especially the very moving original songs!! Tisha and jack Bennett
